I wanted to experiment a little with recording vinyl to my computer to compare various setting on the 'table, like VTA and accessories. So I bought a Echo Indigo IO after reading positive reviews. Bottom line, I think its a great sound card and it records very well up to 24/96.
The trouble is that I get a tiny bit of high freq noise when I start recording from the turntable. I don't get this when recording from my CDP. The strange thing however is that the noisy hiss (low level) only manifests when I hit the record of pre-record in my software (Sound Forge 9c). If I just play a record and listen to it with my headphone on the Indigo there is no noise.
So I start Sound Forge and press Record to check the levels, choose my file format (any format). Then the noise appears. Rechecking with Audition and Audacity got the same results.
The hi freq hiss is at about -55dB but clearly hear able through the headphone. It doesn't matter if the table is on or off.
Does this make any sense?
Using a IBM T43 laptop (on battery/AC no diff), HD650 headphone.
Any help is much appreciated.
Ralph
