"No registry cleaner can have a database of all the settings every piece of legitimate software places in the registry. At best, it might have a very limited list of registry entries that are known to be associated with malware. It can't even know the difference between legitimate software and malware.
So what does a registry cleaner do to be effective? It searches for entries that fit some pattern and removes them. A false positive can seriously affect your computer's operation."
Hi Bill,
I think we are having a bit of a misunderstanding. Nothing to do with malware at all, but actually old or unnecessary items and or links which are left over in the reg. Incomplete uninstalls can leave the reg file a mess. Some programs can leave your system a mess when uninstalled. Norton is a good example, you need to use a special uninstaller to get all the crap out.
"The exact meaning of every entry is a mystery. "
I have never found this to be the case.
regards
Bob
