You're quite right. Pin 5 is the grid pin and it should have a grid-stop resistor tied to it. Later 6C33 based amps used 680 ohms. Still, it is very important that the existing grid-stop resistor be good and noit present an open circuit. You'll need an ohmmeter to be sure the grid-stop resistor is good. Just because the resistor is a certain wattage, and should survive, does not mean it actually has survived. You should also inspect the spring steel on pin 5 to be sure it makes a good mechanical connection with the tube pin.
