Go to your normal listening position when the room is quiet, and clap your hands. If you
hear a prolonged metallic ring after the clap, you have slap-echo, and no amount of
tweaking of your system will cure it. I once had a room with severe slap-echo, and
eventually moved before I was able to completely tame it. It is very bad for accurate
reproduction, but it would help the cheesy "stadium" effects found on lower-priced
receivers!Curing it requires lots of soft wall and floor coverings, and upholstered furniture.
Be sure the first reflection areas for your tweeters are well-damped. These are the places
on the floor, walls, and ceiling, where you would see the closest reflection of the speakers if
these surfaces were covered with mirrors. Your side walls are very close, and the first
reflection problem from these will be severe.Once the room is under control, and if you still have a brightness issue, start with the power
cords on the M-60s and experiment with alternative interconnect cables. Yes, you will hear
the difference once the room is out of the way. In general, larger wire size (lower gauge
number) in the power cords results in a softer and more mellow sound. You may need
shielded interconnects in your urban RF environment.Good luck!
