The overall idea is to reduce the gain of the amp. Then normal preamps can be used. Our AvantGarde dealers have had good success with this approach and use either the MP-3 and MP-1. My advice is to keep all the output tubes (you can run less if you want but I think it sounds better with all the outputs in place).
