Guys, I think Ralph is talking about removing the cascode tube section of the driver stage and replacing it with a plug that will assure circuit continuity in the absence of the cascode. (Why am I putting my foot in my mouth? I could be wrong.) Anyway, if I am correct, this has no bearing on the output stage. By far most of the voltage gain in an Atma-sphere amp is happening in the driver stage. Removing the cascode reduces the overall gain of the amplifier with no sacrifice in sound quality and with no effect on output impedance, which does go up if you remove output tubes as a way of reducing output power.
