Hi Lew:All pairs were matched by Andy who put painted dots on the base so
I can tell which tubes go together. The W's are a matched quartet
for the MA1-MK2 input gain stage(the center two tubes). The GTB's are
also a matched quartet for the MA1-MK2 cathode followers(the external
two tubes). The cathode stage cannot use the W's because they run at
a higher voltage.The other two pairs of GTB's are also matched for the Cary. Phono
quality for the gain stage and gain stage quality for the cathode
followers.There are a total of six pairs of tubes which I paid a total of
$ 644.00. I had hoped to get 100.00 per pair for the GTB's and
$ 150.00 per pair for the 2 pairs of W's. This totals $ 700.00
less shipping and COD tags I would break even. The higher amounts
were listed ( 175.00 and 125.00) only because you never get what you ask for. I do not see this as a ripoff which I am sure you will agree.I guess I may have overpaid from the beginning, this was not known by me
at the time. If I paid less I would have asked less.But keep in mind that the W's are top phono quality and matched for gain.
1 pair of GTB's is top phono quality and matched for gain. The remaining
three pairs of GTB's are preamp line stage quality selected for low
microphonics and matched for gain to be used as cathode followers in the amp and preamp.Thats about it. Thanks for your feedback.
Regards,
AL
