I used to take my hifi gear, in my younger days , to the local valve man. He did some work on a tube pre for me. his s claim was that audiophile parts didn't measure as well as cheap ones. ( I'll stop for a sec so you can breathe or throw something) .it sat in a cupboard for various reasons
fast forward to this week and I'm swapping this pre with a friend. after playing it for a few hours it starts fizzing and wizzing. He and a friend look at it and find that mr. Measurement fooled around with the circuit , including replacing original pars with the 89c worth of crap parts, and has changed the valves for others that had dropped the line input to the low level of an mc.
