Hi Paul,
When I was an art major in a former lifetime, we learned how to draft proper ellipses. Can't remember the particulars, but the axes and degrees chosen were based somehow on the vanishing points of the perspective drawing. Automotive illustrators need to master this or else the wheels come out looking all wonky. At least this artist didn't conjure up the dreaded "pinched" ellipse- still see this all the time.
