Pulchritude, yes. Refulgent, no.I've noticed that over the past 15 - 20 years the use of such pretentious language has become more pervasive with certain audio reviewers. (And more alarming, it appears to be contagious. I bet they sit there with a thesaurus at their fingertips.)
Perhaps such language is purposefully used to show potential buyers that owning such expensive equipment confers upper crust high society cachet*. But, as it appears to be purposeful, more than likely such showy language is an attempt to demonstrate to readers that the reviewer is an elite (special, knowledgeable, smart, educated, etc.) reviewer. Elite NO, pretentious YES.
By the way, I don't think that it is limited to The Absolute Sound.
*Yes I chose to use the word "cachet" on purpose. I could have used the word "cred". LOL.
