Let's see, I am a manufacturer and I wouldn't mind my product being mentioned every so often, hopefully in a meaningful way. I could let it remain on hand for someone who writes for a magazine and would mention it as "associated equipment" every couple of months. Ultimately, it serves a couple of different purposes. If the practice were that pervasive, reviewers would have equipment pouring out of their houses.
