I have connected my DAC to AN kits Interstage monoblocs (300B SE) with passive preamp. It consists of input selector switch and transformers volume controls (one C-core for each channel). Very clean & transparent sound, real music pleasure just at the lowest volume level. It's much better than with resistive attenuators. There is one inconvenience only. This type of volume control is very sensitive to mains hum, so it's needed to placed it at 0.4-0.5m from any block with mains transformer.
