RE: How good is the L3 Remote Signature Version with C-core trannies?

Hi Mitch2

I have just finished building the remote L3. It replaces a Lumley valve preamp. I noticed that high quality transistor preamp I borrowed was revealing more fine detail than my Lumley, but did not have the large warm soundstage that my Lumley had. My plans were to find something that did both. I also have experience of using transformers on the output of my power amp and so was looking for transformers as well. I am lazy and I have got used to constantly tweaking the vol as I listened, so remote was essential. The L3 looked right. I noticed also the price difference from the standard to the remote. Where else can you get a high end remote control for less than £200?
Bought it.
Very slowly, enjoyed building it. I was impressed by the quality of the standard components and the case. I am currently running it in, and cannot give full evaluation just yet, but out of the box I had a WOW. This was more impressive than I had thought or expected. It was an even larger soundstage than the Lumley. The bass shocked me both with the depth and the detail I could hear. Straight away I noted this amp is very fast. The detail I had heard from the solid state amp was all there as well, but not in your face, just natural as it should be. I noticed also the limitations belong to other items, speakers, CD player etc. This L3 revealed the best from my stuff. I never thought that recordings could sound so real.
I took my hat off to modern day CD’s they were a lot better than I had given them credit for.
Back to the build. I took pride in it, using silver loaded solder etc. I found it easy to do and could recommend it to anybody that can use a soldering Iron and has respect for high voltages.
I hope this helps
Neil
