Hi. I just picked up this thread today, so sorry for late reply. I figured i would chime in here. I am usually an aa lurker only. :)
I used to run my speakers out in the room where a normal bookshelf speakers would sit. They sounded like nice speakers. I did try to move them back, but didnt REALLY corner place them enough i think. Then, i just moved them over the past week really into the corners about 20cm from back wall and about 2 feet from side wall. quite a difference. Sounds kind of like my friends altec 604 open baffle speakers. Imaging is improved as is stage depth. Bass is quite impressive but can be boomy. Will try to tweak positions a bit more.
I used to run SET 8watt 300bs, 25w chipamp, atmasphere 30w OTL, and a 30w aleph j clone. Never quite dynamic enough. polite and nice, but boring. So, i just acquired a Musical design 125w/ch solidstate amp. WOW! ok, not quite as smooth treble, but the rest is better with regards to imaging, soundstage and most of all realistic dynamics. I DO like my techno music now and then. Ok, imaging maybe not quite as palpable as SET amps.
IMHO, low wattage SET amps are inadequate for the original woofer an-e's out there. The newer hemp woofer HE versions may be much better match, but i havent heard one personally, only read in reviews.
Just my two bits! Best of luck!
