While it is true that placing any speaker in a corner close to the back wall will degrade the soundstage some, but at the same time will increase low frequency performance. There is a tradeoff. I have had my AN-E's both in the corners and pulled out slightly away from the corners. I have to say that for some reason the soundstaging does not suffer a lot when they are in the corners, but it is in fact just slightly better with them pulled away from the corners by about 1.5 to 2 feet. With them pulled out the low frequency performance is still excellent except for the very lowest registers which are rarely encountered outside of pipe organ music.Of course all of this I have said is dependent on the actual dimensions of the listening room. Your results may vary depending on the ratio of the length of the backwall to the sidewalls, ceiling height etc. In my listening room I have found that pulling them out 1.5 to 2 feet from the corners and toeing them in so that a straight line from your ears to the speakers putting the outer edge of the tweeters just to the outside of the earlobes works best by far.
There are some pictures of my listening room on Dave Cope's Audio Note Answers forum if you would like to see how I have them set up. The link is below. I hope this helps answer your question.
