I have bought quite a number of them over the past 4 years or so and never a problem like either the tarnishing or the wear on the contact surfaces. They all have performed flawlessly and are as clean as new. They seem like a great product.

The only thing that comes to mind is some kind of corrosive environment but I'm sure it would be obvious to you if that were so. I assume you used only good solder and resin flux in soldering them.

Maybe you could buy just one new pair and try it for another year and see if the same thing happens. If they stand up OK, then replace the rest.
