It would work fine. I've tired it and it sounds great. Here's a link to some specifics. While the tube discussed is a 6n1P, the 7308, 6922 would work even better. This also allows you to use one stage, plate loaded. Plenty of gain, avoids the SRPP topology (which I've tried and don't like as well), and eliminates the need for the 6SN7 (provided you've got preamp with some gain).
