Hello Richard. A by-pass or parallel capacitor, in the B+ rail, basically minimizes series resistance and series inductance. This allows hi freq noise to shunt to ground - instead of proceeding to your anode-OPT-speaker-your ears. Polyprops, or polysterene, or copper foil, etc... lends a certain "flavor" to the final tone. Again, let your own ears be the judge.
