another cheap mod to try is to replace the dropping / decoupling resistor 2k7 ohm of the input stage by a choke. You can buy a pair of Hammond chokes from partsconnexion for this mod for $10,58 each. The part no. is Hammond-63074, 60H, 2750 Ohm. You might want to increase the 68uf cap to 100uf or even 200uf for this mod.

What this mod does is to increase decoupling between the power supply of the input and the driver/power stages. Quite significant improvement in the bass I have as the result.
