Dear SB,Hemp was used for paper and clothing going back thousands of years, the Guttenberg manuscripts were printed on hemp paper, as was the US constitution, so it has been around for longer than most materials in human use.
It is apparently difficult to get bamboo pulp with the right composition, or so I am told by the paper specialists I have spoken to sofar, but we are running a continuous program of experimentation and sooner or later I will try bamboo as well.
We have made some bamboo speaker cabinets and they were less sonically successful initially, although I think they can be worked on further to reach their natural potential, so it remains to be seen whether it is a better sounding material than Baltic birch plywood at the end of the day.
Bamboo strips were used in speakers in the 1930's to stiffen the diaphragm, so its use is not new.
Sincerely,
Peter Qvortrup
