I have owned two Kit Ones previously, and now a Kit One PQ. With the regular Kit ONes, I preferred my Audioprism Mantissa preamp played into the amps every time. There was NO advantage to not using it. But with the PQ, I do prefer no other preamp to be used. Maybe it is just the overall better transparency available with the PQ, but using either my Mantissa or an ARC Ref2 mk2 seemed to VERY SLIGHTLY lessen the transparency of the amp, although both are excellent with other amps. It is as if the stock Kit One benefitted from a partially prefocused image, wheras the PQ prefers to sort it out itself, and is more capable of doing so. So using a preamp with the PQ almost "oversorts" the picture, resulting in a filtered effect, IMO. Hope this makes some sense, words are failing me here. Of course, you have to try it yourself, and come to your own conclusions.
