The stereo VTV amp with discrete Sparko Labs is $1350.....the same amount that the Ghent/eval board would cost if you bought the case and harness from Ghent, the Purifi modules and front end from Purifi and the power supply from Hypex. If you want the VTV with an integrated circuit op amp mounted like the Purifi eval board then it is just $1000 delivered. You can order from VTV and within 10 days be listening to music. VTV are also using the Ghent chassis (custom made for them). With the Ghent thang you have to order from three different companies......what if your power supply failed?.....then you would have to send it back to Holland. The VTV has two year warrantee, they are here in the US and it is already assembled and has a 30 day money back if you do not like the sound......and it will have better resale value.
The Purifi eval input board has a single dual integrated circuit op amp one each channel for the buffer. This 1612 op amp is one of the finest sounding integrated circuits you can buy. However, it is not as transparent as the best discrete op amps. The VTV amp can be ordered with a buffer board that can accept many different flavors of discrete op amp.....and down the road when an even better one comes out you can then replace what you have for the better one....and you can buy different ones to get different sound (op amp rolling). The VTV input boards use low distortion, low noise regulators (Sparko Labs) on each channel. The Purifi board has a single discrete regulator for both channels. The high voltage power supply feeds are separate for each channel on the VTV whereas on the eval board both channels are fed from one cable.
So, with better sounding buffers, more regulators and better power supply feeds and channel separation the VTV wins for sound as well. Then there are the crazy modders who can take it to another world.
