The problem with tone controls is they lack the actual amplification power to 'gain' midbass and bass.
Attenuation from neutral is nothing.
What would really be needed is top notch gain, so ALL functions attenuate.
Full gain at max dials..
Then it might sound good IMO.
What is really needed is a box with gain, and switches between notch filters, and broad four area dials (Treble, upper mid, midbass, bass), plus step/tilt switches
In the digital domain there is the Behringer DEQ2496.
Something as complex in the analog domain.. So what if it cost $10k
