Hi Green Lantern!
I know for a fact that one can use a simple hair dryer to affect the tension of mylar.
Been there done that on Quad's dust protection sheet.
The main stress on them mylar is not low heat over time but the temperature of that heat.
So storing in a "hot" storage will not be a problem of such.
Heat shrinking a small area that are being repaired by a DIY will get wrinkles away. But care should be taken not to affect the surrounding area as it will offset the tension of the pretensioned membrane.
Cheers!
The one who succeeded was the one who didn't know it was impossible.
