IMO McIntosh amplifiers are not good matches to Magnepan speakers. Maggies are low efficiency and low impedance. The McIntosh design protects the output devices at the expense of limiting current into low impedance loads. Being able to double power into half the impedance (typically, going from the 8-ohm to 4-ohm load ratings) is a clue that the amp may deliver adequate current, but does not guarantee it will. Even in the realm of high power, high current amps, some are clearly superior to others when driving Magnepans.
Going from monopole to dipole speakers is a major change. If your contemplated move is driven by experience with dipoles, you may not mind the limitations imposed by your amp. However, if you just want better sound from your amp, I think you should look elsewhere.
