Hey MCR,
I'll take your word on the Linux stuff. Years ago when i was researching the computer route my masochistic tendencies surfaced and I looked at linux. The saving grace for me (ymmv) was that Alsa didnt support the lynx card that I was planning on buying. IIRC after 6 years it still doesnt. While it does now, Mac didnt support that card back then either, so Bill got me once again :)
All that Hires stuff is mostly classical or jazz and some famous pop thrown in. May be hard to believe, but I am a strange audiophile that doesnt like that stuff. Sure I can demo it and use it for testing, but I dont ENJOY that stuff.
The beatles??? Yeah my wife digs em and I have a greatest hits album on the hifi rig, but I only play it when she is around and I might have a chance of getting laid. Same with Buble.
Sorry to be so perverse.
Also I am clueless on which disks to buy. example. I thought I should own some doors. Yet which disk hasnt been screwed up by the "remastering" process and compressed all to hell? Even "hi-res" can be destroyed.
And wasnt there some hubbub about that new Beatles release? Something with the format or something like that.
Cut to razor sounding violins
