RE: 3.3R ?

Some other things to consider:
1) 3.3's are harder to find than IIIa's - probably because less were sold. I haven't heard the 3.3 but from what I can gather there are only minor difference's between IIIa's, 3.3's and 3.5's. All are going to be over 10 years old and before buying, listen and also if at all possible remove the sock so you can see if repairs are needed. This would apply to a used 3.6 as well. All-in-all if you could have a IIIa, 3.3, or 3.5 in the same condition, the IIIa would give you the best bang for your buck.

2) If you are committed to getting the 3 series Maggie, be sure your amp is up to the task - namely >200 wpc@8 ohms and that it doubles down, i.e. 200 @ 8 ohms goes to 400 @ 4 ohms. Again this is independent of the model. While this is not an absolute, you will be much happier if you follow this rule.

3) I would not hold my breath for a 3.7. Magnepan is pretty slow to bring out new models. The 1.7 just came out, the "mini-Maggie" has been in prototype for well over a year, and the 3.6 IMHO is stretching the "3" model about as far as it can go, short of the obvious "limited edition" with better xo parts, wood frames, quality binding posts, etc (and Magnepan ain't gonna do that).
