1) What wire are you using to rewire the Maggies(gauge/brand).
Given that you mention "ribbon" further down, I guess you have a 3-way Maggie - as I do?
My take on wiring is the following:
* I only use solid-core wiring.
* I believe in "skin effect" - so I use different thickness, solid-core wires for the various drivers.
* Because the wire to the true-ribbon is many times longer than the wires to the mid and bass panels, what you use here is crucial. Although the current carried by the ribbon wire is low, its length means you should have an "excessive" guage (relative to the current).
So in my Frankenpans, I used 6 x 24g solid-core wires for the ribbons. 24g because according to this table, skin effect is relevant to tweeter wires:
http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm
... and 6 x 24g wires gives almost a 16g result (to produce a relatively low DCR for such long wires).
For mids & bass (seeing as the length of these wires is much less than 1'), I used 20g magwire:
* 4 strands for mid - which is the equivalent of 14g, and
* 6 strands for bass - which is almost 12g.
2) what material are you using to insert onto the Maggie tab....If you rewire and solder to "a" female tab....what female tab material are you using....and where to source it....
My Frankenpan bass & mid panels have solder pads to connect the XO wires - ie. no tabs! :-)) But on my ribbons, I bought some 3/16" brass female tab connectors at Ratshack ... I don't think you can get any better quality ones?
So, soldering the wire to the tabs will probably give you a better sonic result ... but by how much? 5%?
3) Are you leaving the Maggie original wire that connects to the ribbon?
Absolutely not!! :-))

Andy
