yes, aluminum has poor mechanical properties. However, in a conservatively designed system or structure it will work. My brother, the long hall trucker showed me Aluminum trailers for long haul guys. I was appalled and we argued for weeks.
Isn't plastic deformation what happens when you exceed fatigue or elastic limits? Aluminum HAS no fatigue limits, every stress cycle eats into the ultimate lifespan of the product.

This will happen to steel, titanium and many other metals.....
