Yes, it will be a tight one, that's fer sure. Julia has only been the leader of the Labour party (and incumbent PM) for 2 months, ever since she knifed Rudd in the back ... and Tony "the mad monk" Abbott has only been leader of the Liberal party (the Opposition) for 12 months, as the last man standing after a round of even shorter-term leaders following on from when the Libs got kicked out a couple of years ago.
If Tony loses, the Liberal party will be in for quite a few years of instability in its senior ranks; likewise if Jules loses, she'll be out but the Labour party apparatchiks will be blamed for Labour's loss.
