Congrats on your recent birthday. Oh, how I wish I were as Old a fart as you are! :^)) Bah, I am way past that point, though not really unhappy about it.
On exposing kids to good sound, I strongly agree, and try to do it, as well. In addition, one of these days I may get around to encouraging a few high-end audio dealers to sponsor school children attendance to live concerts. I just haven't found the proper business twist to do it. It is not hard for them to understand "future customers".
Yet, such a long-term strategy can't be justified unless short term gains come along, as well. Enticing the parents to visit the dealers could work to increase sales potential, but only if a school is in an affluent neighborhood. Beyond this, I still have to find the key...and the economy needs to start getting better.
