RE: New owner - MG IIbs - awesome!

Very cool. In fact, the farther you get them from the rear wall up to IIRC 15' or so the better, you'll get a deeper soundstage. The rear wave is still being reflected and reproducing depth, for reasons that aren't yet fully understood but may have to do with the fact that once it's out of the 10 msec fusion range sound is interpreted by the brain as ambiance, and that the ratio of direct to reflected sound is important to the sensation of depth. The brain apparently filters out sound that comes from the direction of the direct sound in determining that ratio.

What you do want to do is get them about 2' away from the side walls.

I agree with Dr. Chaos that the 1.6's are brighter than the older Maggies. I actually prefer the older, more mellow balance, since it's closer to what I hear when I listen to live music, which has extended and open but never etched highs.

I like the plants too! Plants make good backwave diffusers when placed behind the speakers.
