Sure. Another difference is that you're pressurizing a box with the entire backwave of the speaker. The box contains damping material and, alas, some of the wave re-emerges again through the driver, but still, a lot of acoustic energy is reaching the inside of the enclosure, and triggering some nasty resonances to boot. Whereas in the Maggies, the backwave is free to radiate out the rear. This means that a box has to be much more rigid than a frame to control unwanted output.
