 Looking for analogue in /(non-HDMI) digital out device that does not require additional software or a computer.
Want to connect my phono preamp to a digital-only input amp
Is there such a thing??

 I don't know for sure but I suggest looking at musician interfaces that have an SPDIF output, which should work for what you want to do. But, I don't know if they rely on a computer/tablet to control settings?

 The Tascam Da-3000 should do that. But it is discontinued. Maybe you can find one used

 Will this Behringer unit do what you want?

You could also use a WiiM Mini, WiiM Pro, WiiM Pro Plus. They each support and analog input and will output a digital stream.

 I recently sold one here that was no longer in use. I used it to capture phono output for recording purposes. RCA in / USB output up to 96/24.

Pics found in the link to provide an example.

 What you need is a ADC (Analog to Digital Converter). You don't mention the digital inputs supported by your amp. Probably SPDIF so a ADC with a SPDIF out.

 not simply to convey a digital stream to a DAC. Just ensure the digital out matches one of its inputs.

To process the incoming signal as I did, yes. I used the Win application Audacity to record the content sourced by the ADC. I have several "needle drop" files created that way.

 except that is bus powered and he doesn't want a computer. Not sure it will work even if you give it 5v without a computer.

 What am I missing? You said the ADC had RCA in and usb out. What digital amp has usb in?

 I had been interested in a 2-channel ADC myself a couple of years ago and a recent check found that there aren't many options left for stand alone units other than professional multi-channel devices. It seems that most of the affordable 2-channel products have been discontinued.

I have a TASCAM DA-3000 recorder (discontinued) and it works well as a converter. You can find them on the used market occasionally. TASCAM seems to have abandoned the 2-channel ADC product line.

I also use a SweetVinyl Sugarcube SC-1 Plus, which has a 24/192 ADC, and it also works well. I run the analog output from my phono stage to the SC-1 Plus and then the digital (SPDIF) output to the DA-3000 for recording LPs. You could run the SPDIF output to your amp if applicable. If you didn't want the de-clicking processor in the signal chain you could simply disengage it with the push of a button. But $2800 is a lot of money for a ADC device. After using the SC-1 Plus for a while now I prefer having the de-clicking feature engaged even though most of my LPs are very quiet. You may find it to be useful as well.

 A stand alone 2-channel ADC unit does not require software in the traditional sense; there isn't any PC or laptop involved.

 What brand/model digital-input-only Amp do you have ?

What type of digital output do you require from the ADC ?

- COAX SPDIF ?

- Optical TOSLINK ?

- USB ?

- Raw digital TTL or CMOS levels ?

Do you have control of the volume level from this Amp or will the ADC need a volume control of sorts? Possibly a preamp ahead of the ADC ?

 Another possibility is a bit of a DIY project. HiFiBerry has two options for DAC/ADC cards (standard or pro) you can use with a Raspberry Pi board -- a RPi 3B would be fine. It supports up to 24/192K digital output for the ADC.

 It's really a shame that TASCAM discontinued the DA-3000. I was looking at all the current TASCAM digital recorders and I couldn't find one with higher resolution than 24/96. I wonder what's going on!

 The only recent digital-input-only amp that I can think of is Peachtree's first attempt with their GaN 1. Any amp with only a digital input is extremely limiting as I'm sure the OP has figured out by now.

Aside from needing an A/D converter he will need a way to control the volume level without an App or computer unless his Phono Preamp has variable output.

-- Does the Tascam have a remote that will easily control Volume Level in realtime so the digital output isn't at a fixed level? I say 'realtime' because in normal use you wouldn't just set and forget the level as though you were recording. You'll want to adjust it on the fly as the music is playing.

 The original Benchmark ADC1/USB is more transparent than the DA-3000. I have both and ended up using the Tascam simply as a digital recorder using the digital output from the ADC1. However, as both products are long discontinued, the RME ADI-2 would be my suggestion. I have the RME ADI-2ProFs-R which bests everything I have used to date.

 I have fallen in love with DSD256 albums. I now own just over 400 of them and most sound better than PCM recordings, except for possibly ultra high resolution PCM such as DXD.

I used to make digital recordings of my vinyl records, and when I upgraded my digital recorder to a TASCAM DA-3000 DSD128 recorder, I noticed a real improvement. Since then, I've been collecting DSD256 albums, and I really like the sound quality of DSD.
