.....so versatile and appreciative of the history. I will nevwr forget you hanging with Sun Ra.
....to Saturn....to Maputo....and heavens beyond.
Tears.
Follow Ups:
I remember the first time I heard David Sanborn and he was playing with Hiram Bullock and Victor Lewis playing drums on it. This was his 1976 album and to this day I think his best, all great tunes. I remember just playing that album over and over amazed at what he and the rest of the band was playing. Great players and great album.
Also with Carly Simon , Blue on Blue and I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good.
with Michael Franks who has great jazz chops and was wise enough to include David in his music. Nigh Music was quintessential and some can be found on YT.
most of his releases were contemporary/smooth jazz but a fave of mine is real jazz. that would be Another Hand which is usually in great abundance in the used bins because people find that this isn't his usual and therefore not within their drive to purchase it.
...regards...tr
Double Vision with Bob James was one of my show-off audiophool records. Very well recorded and produced.
"The torture never stops"Greetings Freek.
...I have multiple copies of that recording....it has A LOT of historical meaning to me.
Read his obit in the Times. Did not realize he had such an interesting career. Playing Woodstock with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, touring with Bowie, playing on Springsteen's Born to Run, etc.
And then there is Night Music. In my opinion the best musical variety show ever. Discovered a lot of new artists from that show.
RIP Mr. Sanborn
very distinctive from the get go, and a great player.
Night Music was truly incredible and visionary and Sanborn shined bright there.
RIP.
