Remember that lot of NOS Shure styli I posted about a few days back?
Well
That's what became of one of them (an N75ED-T2 nude fine-line elliptical) in just two days. It went in a bit too tight and when I tried to take it out it slipped between my fingers.. you know the rest.
I'd punch myself unconscious right now.
Follow Ups:
Man don't feel bad, last Friday I kill my Shelter 7000 that had around 150 hours max.
Now it is at Sound Smith for a full rebuild another $400.00 on top of the $3,000.00 that I paid for it when I bought it new.
Could happen to anyone.
Take a look at this,
Guess what cartridge this is.. don't feel so bad. Where's that pesky diamond gone to? I have no idea! Never used any fluid on this stylus - so no blame there.
Happened - during a set up -there goes my perfect record of no damage to "styli" for over 30 years.
This one was a real tear jerker.
Life goes on... on to the next..
What cartridge? It looks like a boron cantilever.
Koetsu Rosewood Signature Platinum
All fixed now -back to Japan at "Sugano-san's" magic workshop and returned in about 5-6 weeks with a personal hand written certificate of the total re-build.
I have not re-mounted yet. I'm continuing to enjoy some of the other cartridges in collection... maybe a little gun shy. However, I have no idea how the diamond dropped out of the cantilever. It had little to moderate use as well.
Time and money soothes all wounds in the vinyl world....
Cheers.
Really nice photo at least.
Still spinnin'...(ouch!)

Fortunately it was thirty years ago, but I took out a Shinon Red Boron stylus in the blink of an eye.
I feel your pain.
,
Who *hasn't* done that with a Dynavector 10x4/5... that big ol' cantilever sticking out like a sore thumb just waiting to be snapped off.
It's all Dynavector's fault... that's my story.
:)
Life is rough when you're dealing with objects in/of the micro scale...
Just align it to the Bent-erwald protractor and you'll be good to go.
....never cease to amaze me. I bet what comes next is a 1500 word post going on and on about how it sounds different now.
:)
Bummer, man. I've done the same thing. Not quite to that degree, but makes little difference -- bent is bent.

...just a slight bending of the stylus...barely noticeable....should play with no problem (this just became a Monty Python skit!). :)
It's just pining for a Beogram.
Happy listening,

As we say on the GTO website, "That will buff right out."
have done that with the easier to ruin Grado stylus. not a great feeling.

...more than it already is.

I have this friend who does retips and repairs on styli and carts and he's told me to bring it over, so we'll see if he's able to save it or at least somehow salvage it (by moving the tip to a different cantilever, for example - he's done that in the past. The guy's simply amazing.)
