40 year old Advent Legacy Speakers,...
Should I use one 32uf cap, or build 32uf cap with a 22,10 and .1 bypass uf caps?
The other cap is 6uf with a .33uf bypass cap.....
What does the bypass cap dp?
thanks
Follow Ups:
I have used Solen fast cap, metalized polypropylene, capacitors, in vintage Infinity speaker crossovers, and they sound very good.
Madisound has Solen 30uf for $15 each.
Then parallel a Solen 2uf for another $5 to get your 32uf.
$20 per speaker.
A 6uf Solen fast cap, with a Solen .33uf in parallel from Madisound, will cost another $10 per speaker.
Should make a nice improvement.

If the 6 and 0.33 are in parallel with nothing else there, then the 0.33 is a true bypass cap.
It is used to lower the ESR of large electrolytic capacitors.
Personally, I could argue either way, either use one "good" 32uf (you can get really good electrolytic speaker caps these days) or use some "pretty good" 22+10 with a bypass for the same effect.
A friend of mine purchased original Legacys about ten years ago, probably as old as yours. We decided to recap the electrolytic caps and we just stuck good 32uf caps in it. They sounded nice.
Are all 3 caps in parallel, stacked on top of each other?
Can you offer me a "Brand or hint" for the good electrolytic cap?
Back story on these speakers.. 20 years ago I mistakenly sold these to a friend, a week later I was trying to buy them back for double the price.
Hee would not sell.
A year or so later i acquired a set of Baby Advents that matched the Legacies nicely, I sold them to the same friend.
A month ago I got a call from my friend wanting to know if I still wanted the speakers, he is down sizing, of course I said yes, he gave me both sets back, very well taken care of.
I am a lucky boy...the Advents sound better than my cherished Polk Sda 1b's after comparing for a week
thanks for the info....
