Managed to Swap Out 1/8 watt SMD Resistor on 2nd Try. Whew!

Took 2 tries because I thought the flux would hold the first one in place while I applied the solder. I ended up with a blob of solder stuck to the iron tip with a resistor floating in it LOL!
Successful on 2nd attempt by holding the resistor in place.
Cripes you don't realize how small those resistors are until you take one out of the package. I guess they look bigger on a PCB because of the solder on each end.

I did that a couple times - hope you wore your mag glasses.

Here is something that will help - a super tiny spec of super glue on the body to hold things in place, then solder with thin solder wire.

If the 'super glue' does not set, spray the object in place with "Insta-set Accelerator"

  I don't know if I'll have to do anymore but I did order 10 each of all the different SMD resistor values on the board and a few other spare parts to at least make it a 'sensible to me' order from DigiKey. May never need them but for what they cost you never know.
  
  Have never tried a magnifier. That might be a better idea than having to remove my progressive glasses to get in super close to focus!

    all it takes is just a bit of practice on a throwaway part or piece before you begin, just to get it correct when you begin. You will thank yourself when it comes out GOOD! and no mistakes.
    
    The more you use it, the better it will always come out. Just pick out the best implements to use (tools)

      I will definitely heed your advice to practice!
      
      Am finding out how different the variables are in any situation. Not just the process itself but being wary of the PCB trace durability and whether lead or lead-free solder was used originally.
      
      Really appreciating the Hakko 936 I bought years ago and using now more than ever. Need to replace some of my small working tools with better quality. It makes a big difference as you say.
      
      Off topic but my adult kids who are both home owners aren't shy at spending more on things like power tools. I'm jealous. So I spent extra on a circular saw and belt sander this summer and realize it not only makes things easier, but safer too.
