If you bothered to read the thread, plots and measurements, the 1st reflections are evenly dispersed, attenuated and delayed which stabilizes the sound stage, makes the direct sound more distinct and gives the appearance of a larger room.
Larger rooms tend to have more air by definition.
Since they evenly disperse 1st reflections (versus absorb), they are not making the room sound dull by over-absorption.
The longer they are delayed, the more the ear/brain can distinguish them as echoes/ambiance instead of being confused as a smeared original signal.
