Another option might be the purchase of a replacement plate amplifier, perhaps travel on an upgrade path by choosing a better product to install that will fit into the opening. The cost of 2-way shipping and an unknown repair bill could be weighed against the cost of a new plate amplifier.

Indeed, but if it's a sealed sub, there is often some kind of EQ / lowest frequencies boost that takes place inside the amp. So fitting a different amp might not work OR you need to choose a new amp with parametrable EQ (there are some).
Good point, KanedaK. A servo based sub is also an issue. Plenty of research is needed about compatibility, including advice from reputable sellers.

Great information.....I didn't even know that plate amps were available. I sent mine back to the manufacturer, and it cost more than these amplifiers.
