Ok thanks. I was following (I think it was) Mapleshade recommendations to use spikes from equipment to wood and then more spikes between wood and substrate. Good way to sell spikes, I guess.....
However, I ended up going the same direction as you. Now using a rubber gasket material between wood and substrate on all the electronics. However, still have spikes between the wood that the speakers sit on and the granite.
I agree, the granite might be a bit dodgy. But I liked the idea of sinking the vibration into mass. And hoping that big ol' 15x20 by 3" thick block of maple in between speaker and granite is mitigating any bad vibes?
Perhaps my next move in the vibration arena will be to experiment with pulling the spikes from the wood under the speakers and replace with something to soak up vibes. I do have some sorbothane on hand so will probably start with that. If its success, will seek out some EAR.
Also I'll have to see if I can find some Yellow Poplar here in CO and play with it a bit.
Follow Ups:
My experiment with random maple, not special superduper maple, just a random piece of maple was that it was musical but sucked out dynamics. If I remember correctly someone else corroborated my perception on AA. Wood has a yuuuugggg effect on sound and once again I question that thicker is better in this one area. Yellow poplar isn't really poplar and is very common in large hardware stores, at least around here. Tweak on. T456

Congrats on getting rid of those output caps!!! It's revelatory, IMO. Oddly enough I found that 3/4 inch yellow poplar sounded better than thicker , like maybe two or three inches. Wood is the mass for the brass cones. Only getting rid of the granite and listening will let you know for sure. The best idea is the one that sounds the best. I guess you'll have to find another place to test your new caps. I was hoping for the magic .01 in my dac PS to give me the most cavernous depth. Might have to buy some new binoculears after your report. While you're at it you might consider replacing some of that really tiny hookup wire with the 18AWG if you want to further improve the sound. Even better would be to replace all of it. A no brainer in Tweaker's World. T456
