There are non polar 4.7uf caps in the signalpath on the output of this dac. Why? Any possible DC? Can I pluckem? Thanks, Tweaker

Just my 2cents....
The caps are most likely there for possible DC on the output. As long as your pre amp has caps on the input you could probably remove them.
Due to the space available my suggestion would be to replace them with Nichicons and bypass them with a .047uf 716 orange drop. Leave the 4.7uf leads a little long on the bottom of the board and solder the orange drops to the leads under the board and lay them flat against the board.
High quality/expensive caps are not going to make the V-dac a giant killer...

Freak out...Far out...In out....
Of all the coupling caps I have tried in my amps, I think Orange Drops had the most unpleasant sound: hard, overly bright, shrill, etc. Yes, they were the ones with copper leads. The others might be even worse. Perhaps they're better as a bypass for a 'lytic, but by themselves they're the worst I heard. Of course, every system and pair of ears responds differently. They seem to be popular among guitar amp guys.
Nichicon makes lots of different grade 'lytics, polarized and non. Wondering if you have a favorite since you didn't specify? I've used KZ and like the overall sound. They really don't need, and perhaps sound better without, a bypass. It's tricky to get a 'lytic and a film cap to play well together. A successful pairing can be more open and have better highs, but a bad match can smear and distort the sound with resonances.

It look like the Muse es non polar is the way to go in this situation. It's a small space and even small value PP's are maybe to big. The Muse ES gets a lot of respect. Thanks, Tweaker
both are an amazingly good sounding cap. Myths of electrolyics in the signal path are from the "old dazes". Back then it was a bad thing. Now these caps are as good as film caps. Clean clear and just plain transparent. If you need to darken it up use the Elna silmic ii. A little too dark for my taste.
And I also second the 716's sounding awful.
