Agreed. A short-cut that prevents understanding is no shortcut. WIMA is a brand. BGT I don't know.

I wrote about the obfuscatory nature (!) of abbreviations in these pages and was roundly dismissed.

I did a military career, where they love their TLAs (three-letter abbreviations).

  Obviously, "Thing" is not correct. If you do a search here on BGT you will find more info than perhaps you could ever want. The idea is to attach the negative terminal of a battery to the audio ground in just about any piece of gear (preamplifier, CDP, etc). Then you "bypass" the two terminals of the battery (only) with a very large value electrolytic capacitor, which can have a very low voltage rating (as you might imagine, since there is no voltage across the terminals of the battery except that which is developed within the battery). Recommended battery voltage is or seems to be 9V. The positive terminal of the battery is connected to nothing but the positive terminal of the electrolytic. Then this electrolytic may be in turn bypassed with a low value film capacitor. Why this does anything, I do not know, since there is no circuit into and out of the gear itself. It is, apparently, the rare case that does not follow the rule, "It is what it is".
