Not to detracr anything from Mike, but I actually was a dealer for him and worked with him on his "tuning blocks", at least a little.
The implementation of spruce that I use, however, is very different. Woods in compression react very differently from woods in suspension.
At one time Gilmer Woods offered a hardwood sampler: about 20 dirrent woods labeled and with a 4 by 6 inch sample. I purchased two samplers which covered all the woods they had at the time. Setting up even these relatively small pieces at the first reflective point yielded some interesting results.
That led me to conclude that the woods for musical instruments were superior for audio use. After all how long have they been building pianos? Probbly well over three centuries and they still use spruce, despite all the research people like Yamaha have done.
YMMV, obviously

nothing new here. I have seen discussions related to audio and spruce for many years. I think a search here would probably turn up older threads. Just off hand, I think it more common in Europe?

I see German companies making speaker cabinets and racks of spruce.

His information regarding tuning with tonewood is outstanding. I still have high regard for a VansEvers Reference Model 12 Analog power line conditioner placed in my main audio system.
