hook up to the negative. If your preamp is inverting ( CJ ?) the negative terminal is the true ground all the way to the amplifier output, including the terminals at the amp.Stu

OK. Excuse me for being dense though....if the true ground is the negative all the way to the amp outputs then my positive speaker wire is actually hooking up to the negative amp output and therefore bringing that "true ground" to the positive speaker post. Seems like I'd have to loop there rather than the negative speaker terminal.
Perhaps the confusion is where to hook the ground loop. I'm hooking the ground loop up to the speaker and not the amp.

I'm in a similar situation so I simply started with ground controls on negative amp posts as I sort of knew the hot and common (no ground on amps) wiring layout. There was a noticed difference with this first attempt.
My first guess would be to follow the negative out of the amp and that would lead to the positive speaker input but haven't tried it yet.
Hope this question can be clarified a bit more. Thinking of making some diy loops out of some left over speaker wire to play with.
hook up to the amplifier, because generally no one else will touch that end of the cables. It may be relatively easy to knock off speaker cables inadvertanty and some one besides yourself may elect to hook up red to red and black t black.
As long as you know what is true negative, it doesn't matter where you hoook up the loop.

Well, I tried the negative speaker terminal first. But I didn't notice much difference to be honest. Then I read a post in an unrelated thread that was talking about inverting preamps and grounds. So I switched the loop to the positive terminal. Here there seemed to be more of a difference. Was it a night and day, halleluiah moment? Well, not really....
So I figured I would try to get some info on which terminal I should be using for this tweak.
BTW: Preamp is an Audible Illusions M3A.

Thanks for the feed back, nice pre I still have one also but currently running a cary slp98p.
I hope to DIY some loops when have the time and will start with the positive speaker end as your results seem to concur with the thought process. Are your loops diy and if so any details?
Just plain old 12ga Rat Shack speaker wire tied in a loop and the ends stripped and twisted together. I was just trying to see if any difference could be heard. It's there, definitely; but as I said it's not a massive difference in an already good sounding system. I may try something more exotic - like litz or Cat5 - when I get some time.

I am in the same situation, I have mine hooked up to the NEG terminal on the speakers.
I have not tried a second set on the amplifier yet.
