"This is particularly true of tube equipment of the old school. It has been suggested that even copper in cables contains oxides which may be magnetized."
Hopefully they're not referring to copper oxides. Perhaps they're referring to iron oxides, who knows? Even so, OFC is what 99.9% pure so less than .1 % of the conductor can be magnetized? Is that really significant? Not to mention 6N copper.

would be 6N copper. It is really 6N but before processing. Most 6N copper comes from Nippon Mining (Acrotec) and they supply an ingot in a vacuum sealed plastic pouch. Once the ingot is drawn down to the finished size the actual purity is anyone's guess, as the dies can be and probably are contaminated. Very few manufacturers will use a special set of diamond dies to draw cable.Again, most 6N claims are akin to McD's claims of a quarter pound before cooking.
Regular electrolytic cable is 99.9% pure (that Includes household ROMEX). OHFC is nominally 4N pure, once the residual air (and oxygen) embedded in the copper is driven out. Again everything depends on what stage of fabrication the wire is in when the process is applied.
It has been suggested that cryoing copper wire actually drives out a significant amount of the dissolved gasses contained within, because the copper will "shrink" at the cryogenic temperatures and thus push out any embedded gasses. The claim is that you can gain another tenth of a percentage point of purity this way.
The 6N wire which may be outside this discussion are the wires made by Acoustic Zen and Harmonic Technology. Their claim is that the wires are hot drawn from the smelter into the finished size, which to be true must be drawn in a vacuum chamber.
YMMV

Why wouldnt an Iconoclast or Milty Zerostat work? At a far less cost.
endorsing the sale of the Exorcist, just posting the explanation they give. Degaussing, however, is very different from anti static devices, although electricity and magnetism are intertwined always. You can't have one without the other (well, maybe at cryogenic temperatures).Degaussing can be accomplished by playing the degaussing track on the Cardas record, or by purchasing the Purist Audio Cd.
The Gryphon device actually plays a 1kHZ toneburst which slowly fades over 45 seconds or so. You could do the same with a function generator with variable output.

...and what about all the solder, connector materials, plugs and suchlike? In my system the effect is quite audible and spending 3 minutes every other month or so is really manageable
Well, that's perhaps a horse of a different color. By the way, I use the Walker Talisman on interconnects and silver discs.
