Many of these switch boxes have enough space for a volume control.
A friend of mine used one of the Radio Shack models with a nice Alps volume control that he got at the same Radio Shack.

$350 is a bit much when we're talking in the $20 range.

But i bring this for comparison or go further.
Has it some thing new or just a attenuator in the box ?

It has a balance as well as the volume and input selector.
One must hope that they baked the moisture out of the carbon composition resistors before soldering them in circuit, not everyone is aware that this needs to be done.
