I do not think either of your examples would work.
Examples?

If I may ask, what exactly are you wanting to accomplish using two receivers?
Follow Ups:
You are AWESOME! That is it! Thank you very much!
You see, my pair of speakers is in my den which is not my main room (where my A/V components & HDTV are located). In the main room is my Pioneer VSX49TX receiver which I am using there for 5.1 channels. That receiver has a multiroom function wherein you can operate two sources simultaneously. So since I also have a TV in my den, I decided to use that feature for the kids to watch their programs there while the adults watch theirs in the main room (utilizing the receiver for a more lifelike sound).
But just recently, I've also acquired a vintage Sansui G-7700 receiver. I've always coveted that receiver but never got the chance to get it. So when the opportunity came, I jumped on it right away. Now, I want to use it for my den just for Hi Fi music (since it's not an A/V receiver). I'm also getting a Dual 1229Q turntable to go with it.
Sadly, the Ronco Dual Source Selector Switchbox is now discontinued.
So I found this NX-AB2 Dual Source Selector Switch instead which will work just as good. And it's only $29.99 at Radio Shack.

Glad you found something that will work for you.....
Make sure you double check how you have it wired before you turn on your equipment.
