This is to replace the no-name caps in a phono pre-amp. I was hoping to find a supply for Nichicon Muse KZ but only see 100v versions. Things are tight on the board and anything larger won't fit.I can get standard Blackgates but would like to know about alternatives. Especially for caps that are sold through Digi-Key or Allide etc.
TIA!

Black Gate FK for coupling.

Hi tweakk,
Aside from the BG STDs, which are very good, you can try ELNA RFS SilMicII series, a very nice cap I use frequently in audio circuits. They are available in 50V and are physically smaller than the KZs which are also very nice, too bad they won't fit. If there is a downside re: the ELNAs, is that they take about 100 Hrs. to really form and break in. Well worth the wait as long as you can avoid forming an opinion before the are finially setteled in. Below is a link where they are available, from a vendor I have used and trust.

I found a source for the 50v KZ caps that will fit as opposed to the 100v that didn't.
I thought the earlier Cerifine were a step up from the SilMicII. I'm going to try different OP amps and some are considered "too hi-fi" and might benefit from a smoother sounding cap.
Thanks for the info.
tweakk,
Seemed like such a simple question, but after some thought I decided to look back into some of my mod notes. When I mod a component it will go through several iterations of cap brands and evaluated based on what I think I hear. That said, I have used both the KZ and the SilMicII as the last coupling cap in the audio circuits. Now the caveats, in sheer numbers the KZ wins the numbers count, but the interesting thing is that in all cases where the KZ is the last cap, the one just before it, if there's a need for one, is always a SilMicII.
As to what is a step up or down, if I remember correctly, the Cerefines were thought better than the first Silmics but when the IIs arrived, based on my own experience, I thought the IIs won. So much of this is personal preference and component specific.
Just as an aside, the web link I posted in the last posting carries 3 of the better ELNA series, Cerefines, SilMicII & Tonerex.

JohnC
To further complicate things I have the sound of OP amps to juggle as well. I'm thinking that I should choose them first and then the caps.
It's going to be a long road of experimenting...
