You are correct, that's what I get when skimming it at work, when I should be "working"...
That kind of sounds like the other approach with the refrigerator magnets. They put a layer of clear wrapping tape on each side of the interface.
So which approach should be superior? coupled vs de-coupled? semi-coupled?

If I remember correctly, maybe 8-10 years ago, Stereophile had an article when they used Blu-Tack vs cones, point both up and down and based on cabinet excitation, they much prefered the softer interface.
Now I'll try to source it and find out I'm a liar!

And, the punch line is, exactly as I feared....
"The optimal stand and interface will probably be different for every loudspeaker. I am afraid this sounds like a cop-out, but you will therefore have to audition the effects for yourself, with your own speakers and stands. Listen carefully to recordings you know."
Back to trial and error.
